Each summer, we gather together our partners in donation at the Fore Life Open. We could not have ordered a more beautiful day on a more gorgeous course. Nearly 100 golfers played 18 holes at the impeccable Pete Dye course – The Bridgewater Club in Carmel. Golfers enjoyed a day on the links and raised significant funds to support good work at Indiana Donor Network, like scholarships for students who have been touched by donation or transplantation in their life. Everyone met one incredible recipient, Grace Havlin. Grace’s mom spent time on the transplant waiting list, gravely ill, before receiving a donated liver. Grace shared with the golfers how this changed the course of her high school years. She was personally able to thank them for the scholarship that helped her attend and graduate from Ball State University, shortly after her mom’s life was saved. When someone has been touched by either donation or transplantation, their world has typically been turned upside down. While this year’s golf outing was full of sunshine, wonderful food, a few divots and many long drives, it was most significantly full of a passion to help, to in a small way return normalcy, to help a student whose college funds took a backseat to a donation or transplantation experience in their young life. We are already looking forward to the 2018 Fore Life Open, where we plan to have at least one hole-in-one, less time in sand traps and another opportunity to support this incredible mission.
