Indiana mayors proclaim Feb. 14 National Donor Day in respective communities

More than 106,000 Americans are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, including more than 1,000 Hoosiers. Making the decision to give the gift of life is critically important.
Every year on Feb. 14, National Donor Day is an observance dedicated to spreading awareness and education about organ, eye and tissue donation. By educating and sharing the Donate Life message, we can each take small steps every day to help save and heal more lives and honor the donor’s legacy of generosity and compassion.
National Donor Day is a time to focus on all types of donation, including organ, eye, tissue,
blood, platelets and marrow. This special day is also a time to recognize those who have given and received the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation, those currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant and those who died waiting because a donated organ was not available.
Hoosiers can register to become an organ donor at their local Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch, when they apply for a hunting or fishing license through the state’s Department of Natural Resources or online at DonateLifeIndiana.org.
