Race fans encouraged to register to become organ donors during practice days, Carb Day, Indianapolis 500

Indiana Donor Network, its Driven2SaveLives initiative at Indianapolis Motor Speedway starting Friday
INDIANAPOLIS – Race fans attending practice days, Carb Day and the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 are encouraged to learn more about how critically important organ and tissue donation is in saving lives and register to become organ donors.
Indiana Donor Network and its Driven2SaveLives staff, advocates and volunteers will be in the Midway of Indianapolis Motor Speedway starting Friday to meet and greet race fans, discuss how organ and tissue donation saves lives and provide them the opportunity to become registered donors.
Inside the Driven2SaveLives tent, located in the Midway at the corner of 6th Street and Foyt Drive, race fans can:
- Win prizes by either showing the heart on their driver’s license – which indicates they’re a registered donor – or registering to be a donor on-site.
- Dedicate flowers to be placed in a celebratory wreath that will be given to the winner of the Driven2SaveLives BC39 dirt track race held Aug. 3-4 at IMS.
- Share their connection to donation stories and learn from organ recipients about how they received a second chance at life thanks to the selfless gift of a donor hero.

There will be multiple opportunities from Friday through race day at the Driven2SaveLifes Midway exhibit for media to interview organ donation recipients, donation advocates and staff members from Indiana Donor Network charged with educating students and communities throughout Indiana about organ donation.

Since 2016, Driven2SaveLives, an Indiana Donor Network initiative, has partnered with the racing community across the U.S., including Indianapolis Motor Speedway, to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and transplantation.
Driven2SaveLives honors the legacy of IndyCar driver Bryan Clauson who was killed in an on-track accident in 2016. Clauson was a registered organ donor and his gifts saved the lives of four people. With NASCAR great and Indiana native Ryan Newman as the face of the campaign, its goal is to engage with race fans across the country, educate them about organ and tissue donation and encourage them to register to become organ donors.
