Opportunities to Honor Your Loved One

Many families develop an ongoing relationship with Indiana Donor Network, which sometimes extends over several years. Families of organ donors express that they feel their loved one is not forgotten and that their legacy lives on, not only through the recipients they are able to help, but also through the remembrance events held by Indiana Donor Network.

The Indiana Donor Network Donor Honor Guard is an opportunity for families to honor their loved ones’ decision to save and heal lives through a brief ceremony incorporated into their funeral service. The Donor Honor Guard ceremony is performed by trained volunteer advocates, all of whom have a special connection to donation and transplantation. Donor families who are interested in serving on the Donor Honor Guard as trained volunteers can contact our Aftercare Support Team at 888.275.4676 or email aftercare@INDonorNetwork.org.

The virtual moment of silence is a unique way to honor and remember your loved one as a Donor Hero. We invite you to share a tribute and photo(s), when you are ready and comfortable. The submitted tribute and photo will be shared on Indiana Donor Network social media pages to honor your loved one’s selfless gifts of donation and transplantation.

Indiana Donor Network has created a space within its headquarters to serve as a sanctuary of remembrance and reflection to those who have given the gift of life. The Donor Memorial is centered around the tree of life, symbolizing resilience, growth, and interconnectedness. The tree’s trunk and branches represent donor heroes, while lanterns represent organ and tissue recipients whose lives are changed forever by the gifts of their donor heroes.

Families are invited to our annual Donor Memorial Event for two years after the death of their loved one. In addition, families have the option to schedule a time to visit the memorial during open hours which occur every other Friday morning and require prior registration.

This event is hosted in Indianapolis at the Indiana Donor Network Headquarters.

This event gives families the opportunity to connect with other donor families in a relaxed environment. Children are encouraged to attend.
