Donor Memorial

Honoring the Memories of Organ and Tissue Donors

Indiana Donor Network has facilitated lifesaving gifts from 25,039 donor heroes since 1987.
That’s 1,291,240 lives impacted.

The families of every donor hero have been provided grief support and services after their loved one has given the gift of life.
As an additional way to support these families, Indiana Donor Network is undertaking a transformative project to reimagine the lobby of our headquarters into a space that will recognize donor heroes in an impactful way. This space will allow both past and present donor heroes to be individually honored with a peaceful, immersive area envisioned for family remembrance and reflection.

Many families develop an ongoing relationship with Indiana Donor Network, which sometimes extends over several years. Families of donor heroes express that this connection with the organization helps them feel their loved one is not forgotten and that their legacy lives on, not only through the recipients they are able to help, but also through the remembrance opportunities.

We want families of donor heroes to visit this new memorial space and have an unforgettable and special experience reflecting on the generosity of their loved one. Both their loved ones and the lifesaving gifts of donation they provided matter tremendously; this memorial space will be designed to recognize that importance.

A sculptural tree will fill the lobby and four-story atrium at the Indiana Donor Network Headquarters, symbolizing a tree of life. The branches of the tree symbolize our donor heroes, while the leaves of the tree represent the lives impacted by their generous gifts. Kiosks throughout the space allow families to locate a record of their loved one and create a profile complete with photos. When a profile is updated, the tree’s color will change, symbolizing their precious gift.

Since our families of donor heroes span not only the state but the country, our goal is to create a remembrance concept that can be experienced by those near and far. To achieve this, an accompanying memorial website, accessible from anywhere, will connect to the on-site kiosks. When a donor hero profile is updated, the remote user will see a video mirroring what happens in the physical lobby space where the tree of life changes colors.

Donor Memorial Open Hours

The Indiana Donor Network aftercare team is pleased to offer appointments for family and friends of our donor heroes to visit the Donor Memorial and experience the reflective space in-person. The Donor Memorial will honor every Indiana Donor Network donor hero from our inception in 1987. However, due to the need to update older records to our newer technology, the initial opening of the Donor Memorial will only include donor heroes from 2016 through present day. Earlier donor heroes will be added to the memorial as soon as possible thereafter.
