Part 2 of 4:

Testing

When you say yes to God, you may not know what lies ahead but you can be assured that God has a plan. I kept this in mind as I made the call to complete the phone interview. At the end of the interview, I was told that I sounded like a good candidate to be a donor. I was sent a packet of information and thus began the testing adventure. This included many needles, EKGs and various other tests.

I had a few hiccups along the way, including faulty EKGs, low potassium levels and possible unequal kidney function. Each of these hiccups led to additional testing and every time, they were proven to be fine. God definitely had a plan. Testing lasted from August to November.

Right before Thanksgiving, I received a life-changing call. I had been chosen to be my classmate’s donor. I also had the privilege to contact the recipient and inform him that I would be donating to him. I didn’t have to call, I could have remained anonymous. But I wanted his family to have peace knowing that a kidney was on the way. My husband, son and I met with the recipient, his wife and his daughter. This first meeting was wonderful. Just to see how much this meant to them made any fear and apprehension fade away. We discussed our schedules and determined that January 13, 2016 would be my donation day.
