Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023

Indiana Donor Network Funeral Director Symposium is a free event for the funeral industry offering a variety of professional development content.

Due to expedited construction at the Indiana Donor Network Organ and Tissue Recovery Center in Indianapolis, the Funeral Director Symposium will now be held at Maven Space at 433 N. Capitol Ave., Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Attendees also have the option to attend virtually.

Onsite parking is available and attendees will receive prepaid parking vouchers. There is also ample metered street parking available and a public parking garage located across the street.

Every year, the symposium provides insight into the donation and transplantation process and offers the opportunity for collaboration between participants and subject-matter experts.

This year’s keynote speaker is Jason Schechterle, author of “Burning Shield” and a tissue recipient. When a taxi smashed into police officer Jason Schechterle’s patrol car, the fireball that consumed the vehicle should have killed him. But by a series of small miracles, Schechterle survived. He suffered severe burns to more than 40% of his body and has undergone more than 50 surgeries and received thousands of tissue grafts just to have the ability to accomplish simple daily tasks we often take for granted. His story is one of life, rebirth and transformation.

In addition, Indiana Donor Network Funeral Director Symposium will feature industry expert Carrie (Helton) Harris, who will discuss major trauma restoration, as well as treatment techniques for donors, everyday fixes and feature work.

Attendees will receive six hours of general continuing education.

Please reach out to Mackenzie Hughey, funeral director liaison, with any questions at mhughey@INDonorNetwork.org or 317.439.9488.
