“Heroes and Hoops” Tournament to Honor Jeron Lewis

Jeron Lewis, a University of Southern Indiana basketball player and Fort Wayne native, became a donor hero in 2010 and healed lives as a tissue donor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (September 14, 2019) – Indiana Donor Network and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation are partnering for a “Heroes and Hoops” basketball tournament at the Jennings Recreation Center this Saturday, September 14, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Heroes and Hoops will honor Jeron Lewis, a donor hero from Fort Wayne. Lewis, a starting center for the University of Southern Indiana’s basketball team, died January 14, 2010, at the age of 21. He was able to heal up to 75 lives as a tissue donor.

This free, family-friendly event will feature a youth basketball competition, health fair, food and more. Advocates and staff from Indiana Donor Network will be on site, providing donation education and encouraging attendees to consider their donation decisions.

The public and members of the media are urged to attend Heroes and Hoops for fun, fellowship and to honor the miracle of organ, tissue and cornea donation and transplantation.
