The Indiana Donor Network Evansville 5K will take place this Friday at Friedman Park

INDIANAPOLIS (February 27, 2019) – This Friday, transplant recipients, donor family members and supporters of donation and transplantation will gather at Friedman Park for the annual Indiana Donor Network Evansville 5K race.

The event aims to raise awareness for the 1,300 Hoosiers who are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.

“We are so excited to once again uplift the donation message in the Evansville community,” said Kellie Hanner, Indiana Donor Network president and chief executive officer, “We want people to know that anyone can be a donor hero by registering their decision and speaking with their family.”

In addition to raising awareness, the 5K raises funds for those affected by donation and transplantation. This includes Indiana Donor Network Foundation’s Angel Fund, which assists transplant recipients with the costs of critical medications.

One donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and heal up to 75 people through tissue and cornea donation. It takes 30 seconds to register at the BMV or at IndianaDonorNetwork.org.

A walk/run will start immediately after the 5K race for those not wishing to compete. The event will also include vendors, music and a “Garden of Hope,” where donor family members will honor their loved ones.

To register for the 5K or the run/walk, visit IndianaDonorNetwork.org. Registration is also available on-site.
