INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Donor Network is celebrating the accomplishments of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tim E. Taber, who is retiring from his role with the organization after 10 years of service. His last day will be June 30.

Taber, a physician who oversees the Indiana University Health kidney and pancreas transplantation programs, joined Indiana Donor Network in 2010. Since coming on board with the organization, he has coordinated organ, tissue and eye donation across Indiana. Taber has also improved and furthered education on the organ donation and transplantation process by working with hospital administrators and medical professionals across the state.

Indiana Donor Network President and CEO Kellie Hanner says Taber has been an important and integral part of the organization’s mission to save and enhance lives through donation. “Dr. Taber has consulted on every case to ensure the donation process runs smoothly. With his guidance, we have been able to maximize the gifts from our donor heroes, which in turn, has saved more lives.”

Beyond his donor and patient reach in Indiana, Taber has been a prominent voice for donation nationwide. He’s served in various medical and research advisory positions with organizations such as the United Network for Organ Sharing (more commonly known as UNOS), among others.

Taber says it has been an honor to work with organizations whose work he strongly supports. “I have been on both sides of the equation. I take care of patients who need a transplant, and then I take care of them after receiving a transplant. I understand the importance of the work Indiana Donor Network does, and for the rest of my life, if there is something I can do for the organization, I’ll do it.”

Although he is retiring from his role with Indiana Donor Network, Taber will continue to serve patients through his work with Indiana University Health. He will also help with the transition to Indiana Donor Network’s next chief medical officer, to be announced in July.
