INDIANAPOLIS, IN – On Friday, June 29, 2018, the Indiana Donor Network and Donate Life Indiana youth education team will be presenting about organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation at the 100 Black Men of Indianapolis Summer Academy. The 6-week 100 Summer Academy program takes place at IPS Theodore Potter School 74 and is attended by approximately 200 students. For over 25 years, this program has focused on preventing knowledge loss over summer break.

Indiana Donor Network and Donate Life Indiana will meet with academy students to discuss the importance of donation and transplantation. There are more than 115,000 men, women and children in the US currently awaiting a lifesaving organ transplant. Students will hear from youth education specialists and participate in educational stations to learn about organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation. A special guest who received a kidney transplant from a living donor will also give a presentation to the students on Friday.

Ebony Chappel, Indiana Donor Network multicultural community relations coordinator, stated, “Multicultural outreach and youth education are two of our organization’s primary focus areas, so visiting the Summer Academy is a fantastic opportunity. Working with an organization as historic and influential as the 100 Black Men of Indianapolis is a true honor.” She added, “Our goal is to make the choice of donation, the decision to become a life saver and a hero, accessible to everyone. It is our hope that these young people learn something that they can share with their friends and family.”

Media are asked to RSVP for this event to Kendale Adams at k_dadams@outlook.com.
