Writing to Your Loved One's Recipients

Our team is honored to assist donor families with writing to transplant recipients, please know that Indiana Donor Network can only process requests to contact organ recipients from donor families whose loved one donated through Indiana Donor Network. Indiana Donor Network coordinates organ donation in 85 of Indiana’s 92 counties. Other organ recovery organizations serve Clark, Dearborn, Floyd, Harrison, Lake, Ohio and Scott counties. If the donation occurred in one of these counties please go here to find your OPO (organ Procurement Organization) that covers your location, and send a note to their Aftercare Support Team for further help.

Disclaimer: This request can only be processed if requested by the legal next-of-kin (LNOK) or authorizing or acknowledging party (AP) of the donor or a person designated by the LNOK/AP to do so. If a request is made by anyone else, Indiana Donor Network will contact the LNOK or AP to verify if their permission is given to send correspondence from to any person who is not the LNOK/AP.

Guidelines on Writing to Transplant Recipients

Please click here to review the guidelines on how to write your loved one’s recipients before submitting your request. Please note that at this time we are only able to forward letters to whole organ recipients (i.e, recipients of heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, and/or small intestine). If your loved one was a cornea donor, please contact Vision First at 800.232.4384. We apologize that we are unable to forward letters to or arrange meetings with tissue recipients (bone, skin, heart valves, ligaments, cornea/eye, or veins) at this time due to privacy health laws.

The following information will help our team send your letter to the correct recipients and will be used for internal use only.

Optional – Upload a photo of your loved one or your family that you would like to share with the recipients. Please refrain from sharing a photo that contains identifying information, it will not be forwarded along. Also note, if a recipient was not transplanted in Indiana there is a chance that the photo may not be forwarded along due to differing correspondence practices in other states. If your photo cannot be forwarded we will contact you so be sure to indicate the best way to contact you as mentioned above.
